"When
I play the ukulele, people laugh. Is it because I'm so bad?"
Obviously
I can't answer that question without hearing you play, but
I can promise that I wouldn't laugh at anyone playing the
uke!
But you bring up a good point, and that is the fact that
the ukulele just tickles people in some special way that
make them feel good. Hearing ukulele music, especially when
played in person, seems to raise a person's attention level.
It also makes them smile, or giggle, or in some cases laugh.
Laughing is not alway bad! Think of it as you creating a
scenario where you are allowing the person to laugh
and not making them laugh. The uke unleashes special
feelings inside of us. That's obvious to those of us that
play the little wonder, and on some level it may be obvious
to those that don't; they just don't know what to do with
the feelings.
My
best guess: They're not laughing at you, they're laughing
with you.
