Hi folks, been a while since I posted because I've been building guitars. I want to convert one of my 4 string tenors to a 6 string and need to know what the string spacing needs to be. I have room on my bridge for extra pins however I'd rather use a spacer (like the brass end of a steel string). Thanks _________________ Do it with Aloha

It seems that there is very little room on the nut for up to 8 strings, so what I did was to mark the nut where I would put the 4 strings on, and then set my 8 strings so that they would fall on either side of where the 4 would go. Having about 1-1.5mm spacing between the paired strings.
Looking back, a wider nut of 1 1/2" probably would be the way to go, but I have usually worked with 1 3/8".
I can email some Iphone photos of the nut and saddle if you would like to see it.

Chuck, I think my spacing will be different for 6 strings. My nut is 1 5/16" wide. Thanks Rich _________________ Do it with Aloha

wow that is slender. It can be done, using a new nut or two. They really sound awesome like a 12 string guitar.
It is a real nice depth in the sound.
good luck
