Got a bandsaw, learned to bend sides... Still a way to go to achieve symmetry. But the sound is good! |

Lots of fun, isn't it? Your body shapes remind me a little of the old English made La Foley ukuleles that Pete Howlett is making copies of now. Dave Means also has made them.
Keep those happy ukes coming! _________________ Kevin Crossett

Any resemblance with those great ones is strictly accidental (but thanks, Kevin). And yes, it is great fun from beginning to end of the process, and thus, very addictive. I must say, there is nothing quite like that feeling of playing an instrument you made youself, however imperfect it is.
Only problem is: what to do with all these ukes that are invading the house? |

It brings new meaning to the phrase "making music", as in actually making the instrument that music is made on! I agree, there is nothing that resembles the thrill of watching your wooden babies come alive.
As far as the uke population in your house increasing... everyone figures out how to best handle it. Play them, sell them, donate them, lend them, raffle them, hang them, and especially learn from them. Always keep a couple of old funky ones around. They become humble friends and valuable reflections as your building expertise rises. _________________ Kevin Crossett

www.childrensmusicfund.org look at Dr. Raffi's website and see what he does with music and instruments to help ease a childs pain and suffering.
I have 4 Bambukulele's in their little hands.

Thank you, Jerry, for the encouragement.
Thank you, Chuck, for pointing me in that direction. Do you have any picture of your bambukuleles on the Web somewhere? |

I do have a website name parked, but have not had time to fill it up.
You can see some of the ukes I have made at
http://web.mac.com/cddanford/iWeb/Site/website%20photos.html
I am now concentrating on the Bamboo soundboard, it has a great tone to it.
Will have more pics up soon.

| These look terrific, Chuck. Very inventive. What is the wood you used for the back of the carbon-fiber one? |

That is a piece of Mahogany that I cut and bookmatched. It came out very, um interesting.
I was building spanish style necks ala hana lima, but now I have new ideas for bolt on necks. I have spent alot of time pondering, now is the time to get to building.
Now that the heat and humidity are starting to taper off, i can get back to the garage and build!
